Timothy Barsky [Intermediate Student '90] is the co-founder of The Vowel Movement, a monthly community beatboxing event in San Francisco and the Bay Area.  

James Forman, Jr. [Senior Faculty '86-'88] is the co-founder of both the Maya Angelou Public Charter School in Washington, DC, and the See Forever Foundation. See Forever is a non-profit organization that supports the Maya Angelou School, which is devoted to helping students develop the skills necessary to bring positive change to their communities.

  Julie Trachtenburg [Senior Student '89] is the co-founder of Girls Actively Participating (GAP!), an outdoor leadership program for middle school-aged girls.

Ellen Bronfman Hauptman [Senior Student '85] and her husband Andrew contributed two million dollars to help bring City Year, a community service program for recent college graduates, to Los Angeles.

Gillian McCain [Senior Student '81-'82] is a published poet serving on the board at the Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church in New York City. Now in its fifth decade, the Poetry Project features a reading series, weekly writing workshops, and extensive audio and document archives.
