On September 27th, organizers of Boston Fashion Week hosted "The Launch", an event spotlighting five local up-and-coming designers, including Millie Bautista [Junior Faculty '05-'06]. A former design major at MassArt in Boston, Millie's collection consists of evening wear inspired by a 1940s aesthetic.
In an interview with the Boston Globe leading up to the event, Mille noted of her style: "I wanted to take ideas from that era [the 1940s], but make it not as dressy. I wanted a more laid-back sophistication. Something that could work from day into night."
Congrats, Millie . . . and continued success. |

| In August, Emily Wade [Intermediate Faculty '06-'07] began working towards her masters of art in teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore. "In the long run," she wrote to us, "I plan on teaching art at the high school level while continuing to paint and exhibit my work. My experience at Explo was invaluable for it confirmed my desire to teach."
Emily, who graduated from the University of Virginia in 2008 with degrees in studio art and art history, deferred her enrollment at MICA a year in order to travel. She spent the past year in Europe ("soaking up as much art as possible," she says) and then in Nicaragua, where she continued her work at an orphanage leading art activities and painting murals with the students.

| Cooking blogs are all the craze these days . . . and Shion Ishikura [Junior Faculty '02-'05] is right in the middle of things with her blog "Shi's Eating." Started in late 2008, the blog now has over 100 posts and includes favorite recipes, eating out and cheap date suggestions, as well as guest posts from friends and fans.
When she's not cooking or posting online, Shion works for Barnard College, her alma mater, in New York City and is a member of the Junior Board of Directors for Step Up Women's Network. |
